BRANTFORD, ON – April 4, 2024 GREENMANTRA Technologies, an innovator in molecular recycling of plastics, announced today the company’s strong growth and ongoing capital investments, which are being driven by high demand for its CERANOVUS® portfolio of sustainable additives. The Canadian company leads the market in additive solutions produced from waste plastic via its molecular recycling high-yield process that uses low heat and pressure. Its additives are highly effective in boosting the performance and operational efficiency of both virgin resins and those containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. By replacing fossil-based alternatives, GREENMANTRA additives help increase the sustainability of plastic formulations.

A variety of molecular recycling methods, including depolymerization, methanolysis, hydrolysis and pyrolysis, are being used to produce complementary products that advance sustainability. GREENMANTRA is taking a singular approach that includes a patented process and a focus on mid-size polymer molecules, such as synthetic waxes with applications as polymer additives. This successful strategy has enabled the company to scale up its production to commercial levels.

“The last five years have seen a sharp uptick in molecular recycling as customers seek new solutions to increase the sustainability of their brands and products,” said Domenic Di Mondo, president, GREENMANTRA Technologies. “We leverage molecular recycling for a specific purpose: making sustainable additives that offset and outperform fossil-based equivalents. These additives allow manufacturers to increase the sustainability of their formulations and incorporate more recycled content without compromising on performance and processability. Customers in industries such as building, infrastructure and agricultural are enthusiastically adopting our additives. To meet this demand, we are continuing to invest in growth in North America.”

In the last two years, GREENMANTRA has reinvested capital in its manufacturing facility in Brantford, Ontario, to increase capacity of existing production lines by >50 percent. The company is continuing to pursue investment in new capacity to support growth and demand.

Improving Output, Performance & Sustainability

Molecular recycling can serve as an important new tool in the drive toward zero-waste plastic. For its unique low-heat, low-pressure molecular recycling process, GREENMANTRA partners with mechanical recyclers to leverage post-consumer and post-industrial recycled waste streams, diverting them from landfills or the ocean. Furthermore, the sustainable additives the company produces help customers optimize their own use of recycled content. In this way, the company’s molecular recycling process complements mechanical recycling of waste plastic.

“By using polymer streams diverted from our environment that would otherwise become waste, molecular recycling complements and amplifies the value of existing mechanical recycling infrastructure,” said Ben Scott, director of Research and Innovation, GREENMANTRA Technologies. “Importantly, molecular recycling can help to increase persistently low recycling rates in the United States.”

CERANOVUS specialty polypropylene and polyethylene additives act as melt flow modifiers in plastic applications to increase operational efficiency, boost productivity using less energy, and enable larger amounts of recycled content to be incorporated into plastic parts. Target applications include agricultural drainage pipe, conduit, plastic lumber and decking, crates and pallets.

GREENMANTRA will be displaying drainage pipe and pallets at its NPE booth (#S35181), May 6-10 in Orlando, Florida. Attendees at the show who are interested in learning more about this technology are encouraged to visit the booth or schedule a meeting at the show with the company’s technical experts by visiting greenmantra.com/contact/.

About GREENMANTRA Technologies

GREENMANTRA Technologies uses molecular recycling technology to transform hard-to-recycle plastics into value-creating specialty waxes and polymers. Its products are used as performance enhancers and processing aids in asphalt roofing and paving, extruded plastic pipe, construction materials and auto parts. These additives also allow manufacturers to greatly increase the recycled content of their end products without sacrificing performance. GREENMANTRA annually diverts thousands of tons of waste plastic from oceans and landfills into new applications. For more information, visit www.greenmantra.com.
